1. Who We Are
Thekgang is a non-profit company (NPC) established to support and grow South Africa’s book manufacturing, publishing, and distribution value chain. We are a sector-development organisation recognised within the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) framework of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use Thekgang Directory—a public resource designed to connect role-players and increase the visibility of the book ecosystem.

2. Information We Collect

  • Personal and Business Data: Full name, organisation name, registration number (if applicable), email, phone, physical address, and B-BBEE status (where voluntarily provided for sector mapping).

  • Listing Data: Service type (from our nine submenus), portfolio samples, proof documents, and geographic coverage area.

  • Sector-Development Data: Aggregated data on service availability, gaps in the value chain, and regional distribution—used for advocacy and reporting to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

  • Usage Data: IP address, device type, pages visited, and referral sources.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To verify your credentials and issue a “Verified Badge” so that the public can trust listed service providers.

  • To map the South African book value chain and identify gaps (e.g., lack of printers in a province).

  • To compile anonymised sector reports for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and other funders.

  • To notify you about your submission status (approved, declined, or needs more info).

  • To promote Thekgang’s public events, podcasts, and literary festivals.

4. Data Sharing and Public Reporting

  • Public Listings: Your directory profile (name, service type, contact details) is visible to the public to help users find book-sector services.

  • Anonymised Reports: We may share aggregated, non-identifiable data with government departments, industry bodies, and funders to demonstrate sector growth and need.

  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Data Security
We use industry-standard tools (e.g., Wordfence security, UpdraftPlus backups) to protect your data. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure.

6. Your Rights
As an NPC operating in the public interest, we are committed to transparency. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing info@thekgang.co.za. We will respond within 21 days as per South Africa’s POPIA requirements.
