Publishing Work Skills Programme
The Thekgang Work Skills Programme, in partnership with the Jacana Literary Foundation, is a six-month intensive experiential programme offered to post-graduate publishing students. Through the course of the programme, students gain real-life experience and training from the Jacana team while working on the
publishing of a single language poetry anthology.
One City, Five Books Authors and Readers Imbizo
The One City, Five Books, Five Authors Readers’ and Authors’ Imbizo is our flagship event taking place on the 27 of September 2025. The imbizo will bring together readers, authors, publishers and stakeholders across the book value chain to unite readers, writers, and the book industry under one roof, build sustainable book clubs across townships, connect authors with readers and supply chain stakeholders, and launch a
provincial reading movement in KwaZulu-Natal. The event will take place at the Albert Luthuli Museum in Kwa-Dukuza.
Indigenous Language Children’s Books Distribution
We recognise the importance of indigenous language literacy for
children. To close the gap created by systemic inequality, we have partnered with literacy organisations to reprint books in three indigenous languages to be distributed to primary schools in Limpopo
and Mpumalanga.
Author Branding and Marketing Workshops
Our author branding workshops, soon to be held in the North West and the Free State, are designed to give underrepresented authors access to knowledge and skills that will help them build their brand and market their books. Through immersive learning and
training materials that they can use throughout their journeys, these authors are equipped to enter into the world of self-publishing and marketing, giving them the confidence to share their work and gain new skills
Thekgang Talking Podcast
Thekgang Talking is a books and publishing podcast hosted by renowned literary journalist, Karabo Kgoleng. On the podcast, we cover topics that cut across the books and publishing ecosystem, from indigenous language writing and publishing to alternative manifestations of books like audiobooks. Guests on the podcast include authors, publishers, booksellers, festival directors and literacy organisations.
